About the Association
Glenlyon Progress Association (GPA) is a member-based not-for-profit organisation. Its purpose is to promote the general welfare of the Glenlyon district and enhance its social and cultural life. It has a volunteer Committee of Management elected by GPA members. A key role is management of the Glenlyon Community Hall and grounds on behalf of the Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action (DEECA).
What we do
The Glenlyon Community Hall is a historic, vibrant meeting place for locals and visitors to Glenlyon. Members of the GPA work cooperatively throughout the year to enhance the social and cultural life of our community through a variety of regular events, activities and community meetings. These activities have cemented the Hall as a central hub in Glenlyon for local people to come together for social interaction in an inclusive and safe space.
In addition, the GPA is responsible for the upkeep of the Hall assets and improvements to its facilities. This work is solely reliant on volunteers, local fundraising and community grants.

History
The Glenlyon Progress Association (GPA) was formed in the late 1950s and was formally incorporated in 1989. Its membership in the early days was quite small, but active in pursuing the local council to provide things like street lighting and public toilets at the Hall.
In the early 2000s, community activities started to happen in and around the Hall. Big events like the Glenlyon Fine Food and Wine Fayre, Positive Ageing Program and Glenlyon Community Action Plan were established.
Pre-Covid–19, the Hall was used extensively for community activities such as monthly community dinners, weekly playgroup, the craft group, spinners and weavers, and regular large-scale concerts showcasing international and local musicians.
The Hall was the central place for community meetings to discuss matters dear to the community’s heart – such as community planning, environmental issues and caring for residents.
Get Involved
Join the GPA Committee of Management (CoM)
The Committee of Management elected by GPA members at the AGM each August, plays a key role in the management of the Glenlyon Community Hall and its grounds. There are several committee positions available from office bearing roles to ordinary member roles. If you would like to find out more or join the GPA CoM please email gpa@glenlyon.vic.au
Volunteer at an event
The many activities and events at the Hall rely on the support and generosity of community volunteers in many ways. You can:
- join one of the GPA event sub-committees including
- Forest Film Society
- Music events
- Special events
- volunteer at:
- working bees,
- at an event
- as a dinner angel at monthly community dinners
- organise an event or facilitate an activity
